Markus Goessi wurde am 13.03.1966 in Frauenfeld geboren. Von 1983 bis 1987 lernte er Augen Optiker.
Nebenbei besuchte Goessi die Ballettschule Frauenfeld, was weit wichtiger für ihn war, als die Lehre zum Augen Optiker.
Über einige Umwege machte er später eine Zweitausbildung in Gestaltung und Kunst an der Farbmühle in Luzern und lernte dort die Performance Kunst kennen und lieben.
Bei Monika Günther und Ruedi Schill fand er zwei wunderbare Künstler*innen, die ihn forderten und förderten.
Seine nächste Station war die FHBB (heute FHNW), wo er sich in den verschiedensten Kunstmedien ausprobieren durfte.
Seit dieser Zeit lebt und arbeitet Markus Goessi in Basel.
Die Körperpräsenz, der Raum und die einfachsten Materialien aus dem Alltag, faszinierten Markus Goessi von Anfang an.
So gewann er 2005 den Performancepreis des Kunstkredits Basel Stadt.
Weitere Einladungen zu Performance Art Festivals folgten.

2022, BangBang, Freckly Night, Museum Tinguely Basel und dem Höhepunkt
2024, mit dem Gewinn des Swiss Performance Art Awards in der Gessnerallee, Zürich.
Stets arbeitete Markus Goessi neben den öffentlichen Performances auch an anderen Medien und Ausdrucksformen, wie Malerei, Fotographie, Videos, Objekte, Installationen und Sprachkunst, die der Künstler Formulierte Wahrnehmung nennt.
Erst ab 2020 hat er sich durchgerungen seine oft intimen Arbeiten öffentlich zu machen.
So zeigte er bei einer Gruppenausstellung im Voltage Basel, With (out) Fear, sein Video SOAP. Weitere Gruppenausstellungen folgten bei Visarte Region Basel, in den Amerbach Studios und in Offspaces, wie SPOT in der Markthalle Basel und in der Redaktion Luzern.
Im weiteren Verlauf stellte Markus Goessi als Kurator und Organisator einige Performance Events auf die Beine und ist nicht zuletzt ein gefragter Fotograf für die Performance Art Festival Fotodokumentation.
